What is Religion?
Religion is a belief in the existence of something that is based on one’s own experience and understanding!
In common parlance, however, the term ‘religion’ is used to denote a certain cult or practice or a following like Christianity, Hinduism etc. Religion, however, has got nothing to do with it. It is as independent and untainted as truth itself.
If I have myself experienced and understood ‘love’ and based thereon believe in its existence then love could be my religion. Similarly ‘truth’ could be my religion; Happiness could be my religion and so on.
If I have experienced and understood on my own what Hinduism preaches and have found the truth of its existence then I have all the right to call it my religion. But there is no point in being a Hindu if I don’t believe in what Hinduism teaches. If I am not sure about, and have not experienced on my own, the existence of what Hinduism tries to preach and checked its validity then what’s the point of my following the so-called religion named Hinduism?
Meditation is the only way to experience and understand something so deeply as to make it my religion. Whatever religion, be it Hinduism, Christianity, Judaism etc., we like to adopt we could adopt but not in unawareness. We need not simply follow anything! We need to first experience, experiment and understand it and then take a decision as to what religion suits us the best.
I have made ‘being happy and living with a dance in my heart’ my religion. I have experimented with it, experienced it and believe in its existence, the existence and possibility of a life beautiful!
